It’s a Busy Season

First off I’d like to apologize for my lack of posts and presence here on my blog.

I have had one of, if not the busiest, holiday seasons yet.

Started off the break with a busy week or so at Buckhead Church preparing for Christmas services. I couldn’t have picked a more fun way to spend my days. Enjoyed every minute of it.

Along with work, I had the blessing of being with my family every night.

A few days before Christmas my mom received news from her doctor that she had breast cancer again.

About 9 years ago she had an isolated spot of breast cancer and had it safely removed.

It was not news any of us had expected or were ready for, although the cancer is very small and is a slow growing type.

The news hit me harder than anything I have ever experienced, although I had an extreme amount of comfort that followed.

Christ was there every minute. Embracing me when I needed it most and by my mother’s side every step of the way.

This Christmas our family spent celebrating the blessings we have been given and the blessings that are soon to come.

I know that God has a plan for this circumstance and it will bring Him glory and in return, bring us joy.

God is the ultimate healer and comforter and I have faith that He will be with our family through this small speedbump in our journey.

I look forward to my next update on this matter when I can praise Him for his providence and healing.

Over the past few days I have been blown away by the enormous faith in Christ that my mother and father have.

It has been an outstanding example for me.

I have the two most absolutely amazing parents in the world.

The last few weeks with my family were wonderful and I could not be more blessed.

God’s Going to be Glorified

Whether or not what we have planned works out, he will touch the hearts of his children.

I was reminded of this a few weeks ago when I was working production at NorthPoint for a high school event called InsideOut.

The event had not been planned far enough in advance, considering the complexity of the plan.

Things were not certain to work out and the rehearsal was rushed.

5 minutes before the start of the service we had our production meeting.

Clay Scroggins, one of the youth pastors, stood up and said something to the extent of,

If it doesn’t work, we will still have an incredible night and God will speak to the students.

I had thought about this before, but it was a huge encouragement and reminder to know that God is in control.

And whether or not everything works, He will be glorified.

It reminded me of so many times that technology has failed, yet God has remained in control and made the event even greater because of it.

Conflicting Views

Earlier today I had a conversation with a friend of mine that I went to high school with and who lives nearby. We both went to a private christian high school and were taught a good bit of the theology of Christianity. He and I believe most of the same views, but have had a few disagreements about church in the past couple of years.

We have disagreed on what should be taught sunday morning, what the first and foremost purpose of the church should be, and a few other things. We had a long conversation today about these things and what we believe. It was very stimulating and educating to understand why he believes what he does and hear myself say exactly why I believe what I do.

The main thing we discussed was the purpose of small groups and what should be taught in them. Whether theology was an appropriate topic for high school small groups and in what way it would be taught. We also talked about whether theology or relational topics would prepare students more for the battlefield that college presents for their faith.

The coolest part was that even though we have conflicting views, we could find a common ground and learn more about each other in the process. The conversation strengthened my love for my church, but also helped me to hold it to a higher standard. Having a conversation like this made me question the purpose of my church and ultimately agree with it more than ever.

Having these type of conversations really strengthens your faith and makes you question the purpose of you do and where you go to church.

I love having friends like Garrison, who will have these conversations without being rude or overpowering. He has his own blog and is a great writer. Check it out!

His Beauty Revealed

This was my view on the way to class this morning.

Talk about beautiful. And the picture doesn’t do it justice.

My God is incredible. He creates things as beautiful as this, yet he loves me and wants to have and intimate relationship with me.

How humbling, He is so forgiving and caring, and I ignore Him at times.

I just have to remind myself of His incredible Love for me and it usually sets me straight again.

For you are great and do wondrous things; you alone are God.
Psalm 86:10 ESV

This sunday I was blessed to be able to help film 14 baptisms at Buckhead Church.

What an incredible thing to witness.

Sure it was a long and tiring day, but I got to hear the amazing stories of Love and change in 14 people’s lives.
